If your finances are interfering with your work, your family, your health, your life-- call us today at 703-335-7793.
Bankruptcy should be a last resort, but under the new law, it cannot be a last minute, last resort. Filing bankruptcy under the new law requires a good bit of paperwork and advance planning. And more and more it requires a strategy.
Because of the twists and turns under the new law, many of the things you do to try to keep paying your debts can really hurt your eligibility to file bankruptcy later. By the time you decide you have no option left but bankruptcy, you may have locked yourself out. We need a lot of information to give you the right answers
Before you see me, we'll mail, or email, forms to fill out and bring in, so we have all the information we need to help you.
Based on our experience with ten thousand people under the old law and two thousand under the new, our forms are designed to organize the information we need to get you your new start.
Then, you have an hour long (free) orientation meeting with one of my experienced bankruptcy paralegals. She can give you general information--the kind of thing you'll find here on my website--and explain how the process works.
She'll also need six months worth of pay stubs, so we have them in the computer when you and I sit down to talk.
Now we'll set up our hour-long free consultation. I'll take the time to fully understand what's going on in your life, and the best way to use bankruptcy to help you.
If you bring everything I need, then at that free consultation, I will:
-
Answer all your questions
-
Decide if bankruptcy is right for you
-
Determine your eligibility
-
Work out a strategy to prove your eligibility
-
Plan your bankruptcy in a way that best fits our situation and goals
-
Work out a fee and payment schedule
-
Agree, at that point, to take your case.
At the end of our hour consultation, most people leave with a plan to get a fresh start in life and a clear field for the future.
I want to make sure I can help you and to understand your situation to give you the right help I will need a lot of information about your circumstances.
Our paralegals will assist you in organizing your information to make the most of your appointment. You may download copies of the forms from the following links:
Ownership Checklist (Green)
Financial Picture (Orange)
Warnings (Pink)
Client Questionnaire (Purple)
List of Debts (Yellow)
You should also get your credit report. You can get one for free at:
experian.com/reportaccess
You have to type those words into the browser. They know when you copy and paste and they send you somewhere else. That's because they are required to give you a free report, but they'd much rather you pay.
(It's free if you have been turned down for credit in the last 60 days. Most people have been. If you don't know who turned you down, answer Law Office of Robert Weed. That usually works.)
One more thing: I can only serve the counties under the US Bankruptcy court in Alexandria, VA. Those are:
