Your Credit Union is Usually the Best Place to Get a Car Loan

Unless the factory is running a special, usually the best place to get a car loan is from a credit union. You should check with your Northern Virginia credit union before you shop for the car.

After bankruptcy, when you are rebuilding your credit, you should make a point of joining a Northern Virginia credit union. Two years after bankruptcy, you should be able to get an ok car loan from your credit union. Three years after bankruptcy, you should be able to get a very good car loan from your credit union.

Here are some Northern Virginia Credit Unions you should find out more about.

Other easy to join Northern Virginia Credit Unions

As far as I can tell, there are no geographic credit unions covering Stafford, Spottsylvania, King George or Loudoun Counties. (Loudoun FCU is limited mainly to government employees in Loudoun.)

Here are some credit unions you could arrange to join.

PenFed

People with no military affiliation can join PenFed, officially Pentagon Federal Credit Union, by joining the veterans support group, Voices for America’s Troops, with annual dues of $14.00. I see PenFed advertising their car loans on national TV. “Penfed has great rates for everyone.”

State Department Federal Credit Union

Anyone can become eligible for the State Department Federal Credit Union by joining the American Consumer Council. Dues are $15.00 for a lifetime membership.

Tower FCU

Started at Fort Meade, Tower is the largest credit union in Maryland. However, some Virginia car dealers place car loans there. You are eligible to join Tower if you live in Virginia and make a $10.00 donation to National Cryptologic Museum Foundation.

There are some times when you might want to be a member of a Credit Union that does NOT have branches in Virginia.
